The Ecky Thump! event, undertakes an activity that can, at times, be physically demanding. It is important that you understand that there is a small but inherent risk involved in any physical activity or martial art. You are responsible for the safety of yourself and those around you. Mutual respect is mandatory, consent is assumed but can be removed at any time.
By accepting you affirm that you are of legal age and in agreement. You are giving up all legal rights and/or remedies which may be available to you for the ordinary negligence of the Ecky Thump! organisational team or any participants.
You understand that you have voluntarily chosen to participate in physical exercise of a competitive nature, and acknowledge that you are fit and able to participate, and that you have sought relevant medical advice before taking part.
You acknowledge being informed of the strenuous nature of the activity and the potential for unusual, but possible, physiological results including but not limited to abnormal blood pressure, fainting, heart attack, broken bones, penetrative injuries or even death. You also understand that you may stop at any time.
Please note that Ecky Thump! is defined as semi-contact. To be classed as a semi-contact martial arts tournament an event must insist that participants wear appropriate protective equipment. It also means that warnings will be issued for fencing in an uncontrolled manner or excessive use of force in a manner that can cause injury.
Whilst we have full event insurance it is the duty of participants to ensure that they have appropriate insurance in place, both personal accident/injury and personal liability. The former provides assistance should you be injured in a manner deemed outwith the regular risks of partaking in a tournament, the latter should you injure somebody else and they decide to pursue a claim against you (again, in a manner deemed outwith the regular disks of taking part in a HEMA tournament). Whilst it is incumbent upon everyone engaged in martial arts to fully understand the risks and accept that injuries are a small but distinct possibility in what we do, it is better to be over than underprepared. Please note that we are not solicitors and we are unable to provide advice regarding insurance policies.
